Mission

We are committed to the protection of life, which is threatened in today's world by war, abortion, poverty, racism, capital punishment and euthanasia. We believe that these issues are linked under a 'consistent ethic of life'. We challenge those working on all or some of these issues to maintain a cooperative spirit of peace, reconciliation, and respect in protecting the unprotected.

We encourage you to reproduce and distribute our brochure, fliers, etc.

about us

Consistent Life (formerly called Seamless Garment Network) is a network uniting many organizations and individuals who support the consistent ethic of reverence for life, as expressed in our Mission Statement.

Our work is spreading the consistent ethic vision throughout the community, our nation and the world. A major way we have done this ove the years is the placement of ads in national and local publications. Many ads have consisted simply of the above Mission Statement, followed by the names of some of the many people committed to peace, justice and life who endorse this statement, although we also do other types of ads. We have been encouraged by the support of many such good people.

Past ad endorsers have included Peace Nobelists Mairead Corrigan Maguire, Adolfo Pérez Esquivel and his Holiness the Dalai Lama; and such nonviolence advocates as John Dear, SJ, Philip Berrigan, Liz McAlister, Eileen Egan, Nancy Forest-Flier, Jim Forest, Shelley Douglass, Jim Douglass, Bishop Thomas Gumbleton, Bishop Raymond Hunthausen, and anti-death-penalty activists Bill Pelke, Marietta Jaeger, Randy Loney and Sr. Helen Prejean.

What are we trying to achieve? A revolution in thinking and feeling, an affirmation of peace and nonviolence, an infinite gentleness, a value for the life, happiness and welfare of every person, and all the political and structural changes that will bring this about.
